Learning Solutions!

Lumar Learning is a Ugandan based Early Childhood Development (ECD) digital learning resource availing nursery learners & teachers, parents, schools, caregivers and all ECD stakeholders digital learning resources.

We are a digital platform for early learning. All our of content is developed with guidance from leading nursery-teaching experts and largely from the Pre-Primary Learning Framework and the Caregiver’s Guide to The Learning Framework for Early Childhood Development, both drafted by the National Curriculum Development Center (the regulatory body for instructional material in Uganda). Additionally, the same material is developed with guidance from ECD caregivers and wholly crafted by Lumar Animations.

Our Mission

Provide access to resources that cater to the developmental needs of young minds from the start. By leveraging advanced authoringl tools and pedagogical strategies, we aim to foster curiosity and a lifelong love of learning in every child.

About      ABCToon

ABC Toon is an animated version of the Learning Framework for Early Childhood Development & Caregiver’s guide to the learning Framework for ECD.

ABC Toon is a product of Lumar Animations.

The material is a set of video/animation instructions traversing through all major early-childhood development principles and proficiencies such as numeracy, language development (the English alphabetic code & phonics), healthy education & good habits, spiritual education, body parts, objects, identifying shapes, actions, and so many other developmental disciplines. The material is also developed to be greatly instrumental in instilling values into a child since the formative years are key to shaping character.

ABC Toon Education Video-Instructional Material! program is developed with the objective of making the learning process for the nursery learners more illustrative and interesting while accentuating comprehension, providing a visual alternative of material for the differently abled learners like the deaf, enabling physically challenged young learners access classroom knowledge more conveniently away from school, and also playing assistive instructional tool for nursery-school teachers & caregivers for children (3-6 years of age). The users watch animated video instructions through streaming on our platform.

The material is replete with founding knowledge that prepares the children for Primary education and/or other levels of learning that follow. Plus, more than anything; the same material is housing knowledge that is greatly instrumental in instilling values into a child ("it is easier to build strong children than repair broken adults"-F. Douglas).

The content is built using contextually relevant visual aids such as digital writing-hands, digital fictional character animations demonstrating different concepts with a combination of actual animations of shapes and other elements.

The instructional videos come with complementary audio of the highest quality and friendliest tone. This swirls  the minds of the learners into imaginative and creative thinking as comprehension is the poster child (we are not teaching what 6\2 [six divide by two] is, but rather demonstrating what it is to divide); which altogether helps learners obtain better classroom & outside-classroom subject proficiency and/or become morally better individuals in society, to say the least. Or better yet, it will  aid proper development of a child & interaction with their surrounding; as they learn to identify different objects around them.

Infused and informed by in-depth knowledge from nursery-teaching experts, ABC Toon is insofar developed with guidance from the Pre-Primary Learning Framework and the Caregiver’s Guide to The Learning Framework for Early Childhood Development, both drafted by the National Curriculum Development Center (NCDC).

ABC Toon has a refreshing air of quality, relevance, simplicity and fun.

The ABC Toon! program is based on the latest research on effective teaching/learning instruction.

    Why ABCToon

The total number of teachers in these centers is 18,887 translating into a Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) of 21:1. However, marginalized or rural areas endure much worse ratios. A searing look into the pre-primary learning in Uganda, as studies show -says it is not so highly developed; with a spate of growing learning & early childhood development centers, with meagerly instructional material. The biggest fraction of these being antiquated and inefficient teaching models, with morsels of thrills for this young lot to make its learning process interesting. We rather sight numerous critical barriers to producing sound instructional material. Access to quality education still presents self as one of the country’s major challenges. Further studies reveal digital learning (safer learning) is so under-developed. The setbacks for effective early learning are too many to describe! Really developing competitive instructional material in Uganda is such a chore and visible challenge! Efforts to improve access, quality and relevance, still have seen shortcomings such as unavailability of learning materials, the danger posed by the on-going Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19); which saw closure of all education institutions since 20th March 2020, absence of support & capacity building for the already ‘’suffocated’’ stakeholders. We have also learned there is a thin line between civility and proper parenting. This is seen with the manifold of despicable behaviors prevalent today in society; most certainly because of under-parenting due to a fact that as caregivers, we are over-stretched by the myriad of “duty calls’’. So clearly, there’s need for assistive formal or semi-formal aids to fill or narrow the gap and abate this shortcoming. Studies have shown that learning impairment at latter and more abstract levels of Education (Primary and beyond) is largely pegged to inefficient teaching models at the founding levels (Nursery education); which sadly, eventually results in producing incompetent candidates/graduates to address the myriad of challenges surrounding us. With the proliferation of International schools with foreign and/or arguably more effective curricula, this poses Uganda’s eduaction sector and all its stakeholders, a great challenge in competitively appeasing the learning needs of the learner; with the present curriculum and teaching models belonging to an era gone by, it should be said! Learners on the continent are walking in the ruins of an education system that has long seen better days. With these incredibly growing and competitive curricula, stuffed with a plethora of present day-demanding principles, worse yet with the recent-past regional job pool becoming open to all East African competent candidates; it is notably a chore staking your claim to this requirement. This creates a situation where national curriculum is compromised for the ever changing foreign curricula to meet present day demands. Therefore, it is only clear that there is a pressing need for profound principles and values, passed on to the learners with the edge-cutting model everyone swears by –effective, valuable, logical/comprehensible, easy to understand, relatable, interesting and yet pleasingly toasty; while in the process making headway with imaginative thinking in learners. Ordinary classroom ‘’reciting” only, cannot, in fact will not cut it. To be realists, the pre-primary learning lot is enthralled by all that is refreshing as this group’s mental resilience cannot hold up to long hours of active class. Many are victims of hassles such as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Dyslexia, or language-based difficulties, or other special disabilities like deafness. So herein we propose animated/ video instructional material for the kids to make their learning process more illustrative, comprehensible and interesting, and also provide deaf learners with a visual alternative of material. We strongly affirm interest will spark all other abilities, talents and/or better yet lay the foundation upon which later proficiencies & characters can be built. The benefits are far reaching to the child, the family and the society as a whole! Over the last few decades, Uganda has steadily improved its education system; it has distinguished itself and carved a niche as the leader in the region. It can only get better from there on! With evolving needs in society due to the rapid pace of change in the technology, there is an ongoing set of requirements beyond classroom instruction tools for an instructor to be able to effectively pass on the principles & skills to the learner who is charged with the role to remain responsive in addressing the evolving challenges of present day. That said, the obvious alternative to achieving this is to look out for programs that are both riveting & pedagogical; with just the norms to give them that punch of edginess -animated instructional material, with that superlative instructive standards. Instruction material that is of modern day grace. Plus, the firm of repute that can bring this wish to Reality. We therefore aspire to play a pivotal role in achieving this. Early childhood development is fundamental to Human Resource Development as these early and formative years, to a considerable extent, bake the potential characteristics and proficiencies that the adult will have. This stage decides what the adult will be. And as the education drives economic growth and acts as a path to a promising (better) future; by preparing children with the knowledge, skills and values Together, shall we?

According to the Education Abstract 2016 (the statistical report detailing the findings of the annual school census of Uganda), a total of 6798 Early Childhood Development(ECD) centers are in place.
